Hail history in Lewisville

Sunday evening, June 11, 2023, is the one Lewisville drivers still talk about. Around 8:30 p.m., golf-ball hail was falling in Lewisville while spotters just up the road logged tennis-ball and 2.5-inch stones, 2.75-to-3-inch hail in Highland Village, and a photo-measured 4.25-inch stone at Cross Timbers and Shiloh in Flower Mound. It came at the end of a long day of storms and caught cars in the Vista Ridge lots, along Round Grove and in the lake-side neighborhoods with nowhere to hide.

Five years earlier, around 12:30 a.m. on June 6, 2018, a storm crossing southeast Denton County and far northwest Dallas County dropped baseball-size hail from the Lewisville–Carrollton line down to Coppell, smashing windows for blocks and damaging cars in the apartment complexes along Hebron Parkway. Forecasters expected it to become the fifth billion-dollar hailstorm to hit the metro in six years. And on March 14, 2024, baseball hail crossed the county again just to the west — Bartonville, Lantana, Northlake — smashing car windows and flipping a construction truck on FM 1171 before continuing toward Little Elm and Frisco.
