Hail history in Grand Prairie
The night Grand Prairie drivers still measure storms against is June 13, 2012. At about 8 p.m., baseball-size hail was punishing a swath stretching from Grand Prairie to Cedar Hill, part of a day that dropped baseball, orange and softball-size stones across Dallas and Collin counties and cost an estimated $900 million — one of the costliest hail days in Texas history. And the pre-dawn derecho of May 28, 2024 pushed hurricane-force straight-line winds across the whole northern half of the metro, driving hail sideways into doors and fenders — panels a vertical storm usually spares.
